Russia has had a surprising economic recovery just after its longest recession in modern history. Many investors all over the world are putting their eyes on Russia more than ever, especially those involved in the real estate business, manufacturing and the diamonds industry.
Moscow remains the main investment destination in Russia, but St. Petersburg is having the highest investment activity in the country. According to a recent publication, foreign investments increased from 6% in 2016 to 17% in 2017, and new foreign investors continue to enter the market every day.
The steady growth in the Russian economy has been good news for global companies. The German brand Mercedes Benz is one of the new investors in the country, with three new plants in the Moscow region. With such a scenario, it is likely that more and more investors will follow.
A good business environment is great news for all investors, however private investigators in Russia advise businesspeople to remain cautious. “Investors sometimes get overexcited about the possibilities of closing a great deal and forget about taking the necessary steps to stay safe” says Charles Wright, Director of Due Diligence at Russia PI. Of course it is exciting to make new businesses investment and to grow, but new deals should never be done without proper due diligence.
Hiring a professional due diligence service or international private investigation firm can make all the difference in any investment. Due diligence is never a simple process, especially in Russia. In the domestic environment the process may seem lighter because investors have a better understanding of what to do and where to go for answers. Proper due diligence in a foreign country like Russia can be very daunting for an investor or business person because of the lack of familiarity with the administrative, risk and institutions in place, not to mention the language barriers.
If you’re on the other side of the globe and have no investigation experience, you will need the help of a professional. Local and experienced investigators in Russia are required to conduct due diligence on a local level, and no mistakes can be afforded, or else your investment and brand is at risk.
Any new investor in Russia needs to look for private investigators that know the local environment and laws and have a good understanding of what are acceptable practices in the country. Having a local team on the ground in Moscow or St. Petersburg is critical, as trained investigators speak the language, have access to local records and agencies, and uncover important evidence.
Investors can take advantage of the boom, but not without taking the necessary security measures. Conducting due diligence will always mean safer -and wiser- investment decisions. Be successful. Contact us and get a free quote if you are planning to invest in Russia!
