Love fraudsters do not discriminate. Gay romance scams area growing and frequent problem in Russia, even though it might not be as openly discussed. In the past few years, online scammers have been trying to find new targets, new techniques and more sophisticated tools to continue growing their dark business. Anyone can be a victim, and gay online dating users are often targets.
Most of the alerts of romance fraud that can be found online advise older heterosexual people to remain cautious, and young adults to keep an eye on their elder parents. However, a growing percentage of scam cases involve gay relationships begun online. The story of the young Russian lady who fell madly in love with an American that triples her age is a thing of the past. Today, Russian scammers know they need to reach other people and be smarter about their strategies. While scammers get creative, the young gay community is often unaware of the risks.
Investigators in Moscow and St. Petersburg work on a daily basis on romance fraud cases that get more and more complex by the minute. As scammers get more sophisticated, the more important it is to find professional help to be able to tell apart a romance scammer from a genuine person.
Dating apps and websites like Grindr have become the preferred way to meet new people within the gay community. Creating a fake profile in any of these websites is a piece of cake for a romance fraudster or criminal specializing in online scams. In a matter of minutes, a Russian online criminal can be starting conversation and beginning to build trust with unsuspected victims.
Gay people searching for relationships on the internet may not be as skeptical and may not be keeping an eye on their online relationships so much. Investigators recommend hiring a dating background check in Russia to verify anyone you meet online, regardless of the circumstances.
There are important things to consider in order to avoid being victim. Not every nice-looking profile photo or description is worth your time and attention. When it comes to internet fraud, things cannot be easily solved. Taking some commonsense precautions can greatly reduce the risk of falling victim to a romance scammer. Keep in mind that you cannot undo sending money to a criminal, you cannot undo sending private photos or personal information that can compromise your security, or cause you to be blackmailed. That is why being cautious is the most important thing to consider.
If you met a Russian online and you are interested in having a relationship with them, get a background check investigation as soon as possible! It may save you a lot of pain and trouble.
