Have you been giving online dating a try? Are you meeting new people on social media? Internet dating is increasing fast worldwide and Russia is no exception. Every day, more and more people decide to join online dating apps and websites because it is today’s most convenient way to meet new people. There is no need to go out, no need to spend a lot of effort, time or money. However, it can also be very dangerous if you do not know how to protect yourself.

Always keep in mind that you are talking to a stranger

We would most likely be scared to share with a complete stranger personal information or details about our family, place of work, photos, etc. Online dating is pretty much like bumping into a stranger on the street and asking them out. It is perfectly fine to start a conversation with a stranger, as long as you understand the limits. You should be extremely careful with what you share. Starting with small talk and some basic information about yourself, your interests, hobbies, etc is perfectly fine. Sharing other information like your home address, details about your family, place of work, financial status and the like is not a good idea. Be skeptical, you do not know what the other person might do with your personal information, and it is not smart to hand over private information to a potential criminal. Do not share more than what you would share with a stranger at the subway or the supermarket.

Verify and remember: chatting for long hours does not minimize the risks

When we meet someone in person, we know for sure how they look, and we probably get to know more information about their lives because we met them at work or through acquaintances. When you meet someone online, there is no certainty as to whom is really on the other side. Even if you have been chatting for months or years, you are still complete strangers! Most of the time the only data you have access to in a dating site or social network are a profile description and the photos this person chose to upload, but you might be talking to someone entirely different from the person in the pictures. Even if it is in fact the same person, what do you really know about their lives except for what they tell you? We all describe ourselves in the best terms when we meet new people, especially when it happens online. But some people will just make up the whole story. Anyone can impersonate a character online, which is why verifying is essential. Do not wait too long before hiring a dating background check in Russia to verify that this person is who they claim to be. If it was a criminal, you will be glad you didn’t spend long hours at night talking to someone who just wanted to scam you.

Remain cautious even after verifying the identity of your online date

Hiring a professional to conduct a background check investigation will help minimize the dangers in a great deal, but there could still be other risks associated. Avoid sending or receiving funds, keep your finances well protected. Also, if you plan to meet in person, be extra careful. Do not travel alone, share your travel plans with friends and family and keep them posted. Meet in neutral and public places, and make sure you know how to contact the police in case of an emergency.
